Terms of Use

These terms govern the use of Observatoire du slop and the submission of images. Last updated: 2026-09-12.

Purpose of the site

The site records, as counters by 20 km grid cell and anonymized images, posters present in commercial spaces. It is not intended to identify shops or people, and passes no judgment on the posters published.

Submitting an image

By submitting a photo, you confirm it was taken in a place open to the public and that it shows a poster and nothing else (no storefront, no shop sign, no passer-by, no street sign).

You grant the site a non-exclusive, free, worldwide license to publish this image on the site and in its aggregates. You may request its takedown at any time from the wall; the image is hidden the moment the request is made, and the takedown, once accepted, is final.

The site checks every image automatically and then manually before publication, and refuses, with no reason given, any image that does not meet these rules. The moderator may pixelate an area (a name, a phone number) before publication; an image that raises a problem beyond that is never published.

Takedown

Anyone can request the takedown of any published image, directly from the wall (a button under each image, no identifier to enter): a reason is chosen from a closed list, with nothing to prove or convince anyone of. The image is hidden the moment the request is made; the publisher accepts or refuses within 48 hours, with no need to justify the decision. An accepted takedown deletes the file; a refused request restores the image.

Prohibited uses

Submitting images that identify a shop or a person, images unrelated to the site's purpose, images you do not hold the rights to, or using the site to harm someone. Attempting to reconstruct a precise location from published data. Automating submissions or takedown requests.

Liability

The site is provided as-is, with no guarantee of availability. The publisher cannot be held responsible for the content of images submitted by contributors, which it removes on request. The map's counters are indicative.

Applicable law

French law applies. Any dispute falls under the courts with jurisdiction over the publisher.

Governing language

This translation is provided for convenience. In case of discrepancy, the French version prevails.
